FableBits: A Star Fell in My Hand
A star fell in my hand
I ran and ran to the lightning man.
I cupped my hands and watched it glow
The kindly man whispered a soft blow.
The star grew blue and silver, trimmed with gold
My mouth hung open, or so I’m told.
I whispered a name, and held it tight.
Then flung the star far, far into the night.
The sky went black, and quiet stilled.
I held my breath – and hoped and willed.
The moon shone green, then purple, then white.
‘Till I lost my star, in the moonlit light.
Then a rumble started, a call cried out.
I raised my arms and gave a shout.
“Ahoy there!”, I sang. “Ahoy, ahoy!”
I waved and jumped and danced for joy.
The sky sparkled red, then yellow, then blue.
My star shot through the sky, spinning it flew!
My father called from a ship far out at sea
“At last I’ve found you! Together we’ll always be.”

I was browsing the instructable.com site the other day and came across a post showing how to make your own children’s board books – you know, the very sturdy cardboard books that are hard for toddlers to destroy?
This is a perfect rainy day project for you and the kids to enjoy. Their creativity can be tapped as they come up with ideas for a story, and following the instructions on the site, you can add pictures up to 10 inches.

Little Alien Boy
A little alien boy knocked on my door. He asked for three hot cooked pears.
I said, “Why do you want three hot cooked pears, silly boy? Are you planning to share?”
The little alien boy wiggled his eyes. He rolled his purple nose. He said, “I need to feed me and my two alien toes.”
“Your toes?” I wondered, looking down quite shocked, for there were little… things peeking out from his socks.
“Hmmm,”, he agreed, “they’re really quite hungry. They haven’t eaten since planet Buzzbee.”
“Well that won’t do”, I said with a sigh. So, I baked five pears – two for his toes and two for mine!
